How to write quality content for your blog/website

quality content

The quality of your blog content plays an important role in the success of your blog. The quality of your blog content can make or break your blogging dreams. If you want to write quality content for your blog, you need to take into consideration the following points.

To write quality content first understand the needs of your targeted audience

It’s no use writing content unless people are looking for the information you are planning to write about. No matter how good you are at content writing if people are not looking for that information you will not be able to bring them to your blog.

Once you have discovered what people are searching for you will have to identify whether the information is freely available on the web or not. If you are writing about something that is already available online, your content might not get much recognition as original content usually gets.

Try to understand how your targeted audience searches information on the web. The language they use to search information. The geographical location, age, native language and education all influence how people search information on the web.

Take away: write about things people are interested to know about

Create original content

If you know how to create unique and useful content you will not find it difficult to create original content. What is original content? Content is called original when it is of its own kind. When you write something on the basis of your personal experience and support your statement with already available reliable content you can say that your content is original.

For example, if you are a tech blogger and you have recently discovered how to improve the battery life of mobile phones through your own experience and experiments you can say that your content is original.

However, you can also make existing content on a topic original if you can write about it from your own perspective. For example, if you are a food blogger and you know how to cook a popular dish in 30 minutes that usually takes 1 hour to cook; your audience will be more than happy to read your blog.

Takeaway: Create something new or expand upon an existing topic

Write easy-to-understand content

The objective of an article is to pass on reliable, useful and relevant information to your targeted audience. When you write easy to read text your blog readers are most likely to understand your content easily and enjoy it too.

Never try to impress your audience with high sounding words that we rarely use in our day to day conversation. If you are a tech blogger or write about technical subjects make sure to include a glossary of words to help you audience understand the meaning of the words.

Content is useless if it does not serve its purpose. And what is the purpose of writing content? The purpose of writing content is to pass on useful information to your blog readers that they can consume and use easily. Moreover, highly technical words kill the joy of reading and the make the reading process boring.

If you find it hard to write easy to understand content, I would advise you to use online tools like Hemingway app to improve the readability of your text.

Takeaway:  write your content in easy-to-understand style

Avoid grammatical mistakes

Whether you are a native speaker of English or a non-native speaker of English we all make grammatical mistakes. However, a native speaker of English is less likely to make major grammatical mistakes. Moreover, they are more likely to write content in the conversational style that can be consumed easily.

However, if you are a native speaker of English and targeting global audience, I would advise you to avoid using slangs and phrasal verbs. A majority of the non-native speakers of English find it hard to understand slangs.

Moreover, sometimes phrasal verbs are most likely to be misunderstood by the non-English speaking audience. For example, she cannot get about (walk) much due to high fever. News got about (spread) that Google is planning to penalize sites that offer little in terms of content quality.

If you are a non-native speaker of English, make sure to read your articles several times before you publish it. You can also use online tools like Grammarly to avoid grammatical mistakes.

Organize your content

A well-structured content stands out from the crowd. Organized content is not only easy to understand but also provides easy navigation.  Users find organized content easy to consume as it provides flexibility to move from one topic to another.

While writing your content always stick to the topic and provide links for additional details as it is not always possible to cover all the topics in one article. Links to an article are not only useful for blog visitors but also for the content writer. Links reduce the bounce rate of the blog and help users gain in-depth knowledge about the subject.

Introduction, body, and conclusion are the three key parts of a well-organized content. Use headings, subheadings, and minor headings to highlight the useful content.

Headings are also useful from the viewpoint of SEO as they help search engines to understand your content. Search engines usually use keywords in headings, title, and Meta description to index your content.

Headings are useful for your blog readers too as they help them understand what the topic is all about. Moreover, headings indicate where one topics ends and another starts.

Takeaway: avoid writing content that is hard to follow and lacks logical sequence

Avoid rewriting content from other blogs or creating duplicate content

If you rewrite content from other blogs or use rewriting tools to create content for your blog, you will never be able to drive organic traffic to your blog. Search engines are smart enough to identify the rephrased content.

The issue of duplicate content arises when you use similar content within your blog or website. Google might penalize your site for duplicate content if Google bots find similar content all across your website. Although, we cannot avoid the problem of duplicate content 100% (thanks, Google bots understand it) however, you must try to minimize it.

Sometimes, you make the mistake of using similar content to target audience from different countries. For example, you might create two pages with almost similar content for the audience belonging to two different geographical locations.

Although, you might not be creating such content intentionally, however, Google bots view such content duplicate and sometimes penalize a website especially if it is created intentionally.

So it is always a better idea to avoid repetitive sentences, similar words and phrases wherever possible. Avoid using similar content and try to make your content unique by adding additional information to your content. If you are creating a privacy policy page or copyright page, make sure to direct search engines not to index such content.

Once you have created quality content for your blog or website, you must measure the quality of your blog content. To check the quality of your blog content you can use Google search console to discover a duplicate content issue or you can also use Google Analytics to understand the behavior of the audience on you pages.

Moreover, social signals also enable you to understand the quality of your blog content. Many likes, social shares, and backlinks are strong indicators of high-quality content.
